Laboratory Technician – Physical Properties Testing
Location: Durham, NC
We’re currently working with an innovative company based in Durham, NC that specializes in providing environmental engineering solutions for industries including power, marine, petrochemical, and industrial processing. They’re seeking a Laboratory Technician to support their production and product development teams through detailed physical and chemical analysis of materials.
Summary:
This role is responsible for performing chemical and physical testing on raw materials and finished products, using advanced instrumentation such as X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF), Auto-pore, Surface Area, and Particle Size analyzers. The ideal candidate will generate accurate data and meet critical internal and external deadlines while following all lab safety procedures.
Key Responsibilities:

Conduct elemental analyses using XRF and ICP-MS instruments

Perform mercury and nitrogen pore volume testing

Conduct surface area and particle size testing

Support wet sieving and water absorption testing as needed

Prepare samples (cutting, pulverizing, pressing)

Enter data into lab databases and maintain sample logistics

Follow all lab safety protocols and maintain a clean work environment

Assist with special projects as assigned
Requirements:
-
Associate degree in a scientific, engineering, or technical field

Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a laboratory setting

Hands-on experience with XRF, ICP-MS, mercury/nitrogen pore size analyzers

Ability to follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and multitask

Comfortable working with analytical instruments and data systems

Strong communication and problem-solving skills

Flexibility to support shift work, including weekends, based on demand
Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in science, engineering, or a related field

Proficiency in Microsoft Office
Working Conditions:

Exposure to mechanical noise, dust, and varying temperatures
-
May involve physical tasks such as walking, standing, lifting, pushing/pulling, and use of repetitive motions
