Job Summary:
We are seeking a strategic and results-driven Director of Procurement to lead our sourcing and supplier management initiatives with a focus on steel and metal-related commodities. Based near Knoxville, TN, this leadership role will be responsible for optimizing the steel procurement strategy, developing and evaluating suppliers, implementing supplier scorecard systems, and leading a high-performing procurement team to support manufacturing and operational goals.
Key Responsibilities:

Develop and execute sourcing strategies for steel and steel-related materials to ensure consistent quality, cost-effectiveness, and supply reliability.

Identify, qualify, and develop long-term relationships with domestic and international steel suppliers.

Lead the implementation and continuous improvement of supplier scorecards to monitor performance on quality, delivery, cost, and responsiveness.

Negotiate long-term contracts, volume pricing, and risk mitigation agreements with key suppliers.

Provide leadership and mentoring to a team of buyers and procurement specialists, fostering professional development and accountability.

Collaborate with engineering, operations, and finance teams to align procurement initiatives with production schedules and budgetary targets.

Monitor steel market trends, tariffs, and geopolitical influences to inform sourcing decisions and pricing strategies.

Drive continuous improvement in procurement processes, cost savings initiatives, and risk management strategies.

Ensure compliance with internal controls, safety standards, and ethical procurement practices.
Qualifications:
-
Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Engineering, or a related field (Master’s degree or MBA preferred).

8+ years of progressive procurement experience, including direct steel sourcing and supplier development in a manufacturing environment.

3+ years of leadership experience managing procurement or sourcing teams.

Strong knowledge of steel grades, processing, logistics, and market dynamics.

Proven success in building supplier performance programs and scorecard systems.

Excellent negotiation, contract management, and analytical skills.

Proficient with ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle) and procurement analytics tools.
Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with international steel sourcing or global supplier networks.

APICS, CPM, or CPSM certification a plus.

Experience in automotive, heavy equipment, or industrial manufacturing industries.
